If I am paying homeowners insurance can my lien holder not sign the check unless I give her half the check?
I am purchasing a home that is being owner financed, I pay the insurance and taxes on this property. After Hurricane Ike there was some damage to the property and the insurance company issued a check to me and the lien holder. The lien holder has stated that she will not sign the check if I don’t give her half the amount. Please note that I am not behind on any of my payments to date. What are my options at this point?
Are you having repairs done? Someone needs to get paid to do the repairs. I would have had your insurance company pay the contractor directly. If you are not having the repairs done I can see why she would be concerned, her collateral is not being kept up.
Ask the adjuster to issue the check to the contractor.
